Autan Gate

Until the XIXe Century, the « porte d’Autan » is one of the two gates giving access to the village. The word Autan could mean “wind coming from the sea” i.e. from the South East, although the door is oriented towards the East. In the XVIIIe century, notaries write Porte Hautainne which could mean the upper door. It also exists an Autanne wood near a templar castle at Roaix, a nearby village. This door was reshaped several times, some old writings mentioning defensive towers. To the right was the hospital which was suppressed in 1925. Windows were opened at the end of the XVIIIe century.
